Hey there! My name is Derek Moore, and currently, I am working as a Simulation and Application Support Engineer at Pratt Miller.
My background in vehicle dynamics and applied mathematics gives me the ability to see problems from a unique perspective. One of my greatest strengths is the ability to take concepts from theoretical mathematics and implement them in high-quality, user-friendly software applications. I enjoy developing and integrating models, utilizing optimization routines, and performing correlation and validation efforts.
Outside of motorsports, I enjoy developing my fully-automated trading algorithms, running, riding motorcycles, and attempting to keep my 23 year old BMW on the road.
I encourage you to browse the site and learn what makes me tick! The purpose of this site is for me to share my work with others; so, please reach out via email or view some of my work below. I hope we can connect soon!
Skills
Through my three internships and work experience both inside and outside the classroom, I have had the pleasure of learning several skills, programs, and programming languages. These skills have been invaluable to the projects I’ve been involved in during my time at Tesla, Clemson FSAE, and Clemson University.
I am constantly learning, whether it be a new feature in a program, a vehicle dynamics concept, or a way to improve effective communication. As such, I never state that I know something 100% as this closes your mindset from new ideas that could push you forward. More often than not I see my approach to problems changing and adapting to different circumstances which helps me improve my problem-solving skills.
Below you’ll find several examples of my work divided into two categories: Engineering Projects and Programming Projects. Although both have things in common, those in Engineering Projects are from my time at Tesla, Clemson FSAE, and my Creative Inquiry at Clemson University. Those in Programming Projects are either personal projects to further my programming skills or those from my undergraduate coursework.
